Kathy Perry
Kathy Perry, 75, is a pilates instructor and the owner of Absolutely Pilates, a studio she has run for nearly 20 years. After retiring from a successful career in sales, Perry knew she wanted a change. Looking for something active, she discovered Pilates and quickly fell in love with it. She went on to earn her full Pilates instructor certification and then opened her own studio, hoping to help others experience the same benefits and strength she found.
Perry believes it is important to have something that fulfills you as you get older. For her, that comes through helping others and finding purpose through teaching. Some of her clients began taking her classes in their 50s and 60s and have continued returning week after week for nearly two decades, which she finds very rewarding.
"When you see somebody come in here and they can't walk very well, or they're in pain, and then you help them, and they come back and get better - it's very, very enjoyable," Perry said. "I hope I can do this until I'm 85."
What has aging and growing older taught you?
"Patience. And the ability to laugh at yourself and others. It's very important. Don't take yourself so seriously."
